Preparing for the GMAT in 30 Days
While preparing for the GMAT is itself quite a challenge, doing that in a month is even more so. If you’re wondering what is the best way to prepare for the GMAT within 30 days, then you’re at the right place. This article will help you understand how to come up with an efficient study plan so that you cover the entire syllabus. However, before we begin, it is important to understand the structure of the GMAT.
What is GMAT and How is it Structured?
Administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council – a non-profit organization – the GMAT is a globally conducted and widely accepted standard test. As mentioned on its official website, the GMAT is accepted by over 2300 business schools and to nearly 7000 master’s programmes, making it the most sought-after test for admissions into business and management programmes. The unique feature of the GMAT is that it is specifically designed to test an individual’s skills — critical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving — needed to succeed in the field of business and management.
The GMAT is a 3-hour and 30-minute-long exam, including breaks. The exam is divided into 4 sections — analytical writing assessment(AWA), integrated reasoning(IR), quantitative reasoning(QR) and verbal reasoning(VR). The exam is scored on a scale of 200-800, this includes the raw scores of only the verbal and quant section and not the analytical and integrated reasoning section. Besides, the analytical writing and integrated reasoning sections are scored on a scale of 0-6 and 1-8 respectively. Both the quant and verbal sections are scored on a scale of 6-51. Although the AWA and IR section scores are reported separately, they are equally important when applying to business schools.
Now that you know about the GMAT and its different sections, let us understand how to prepare for the test within a month.
How to Prepare for the GMAT in 30 days?
As mentioned before in the article, preparing for the GMAT within 30 days is quite a challenge. Assuming that you are already familiar with most concepts of maths such as algebra, geometry, arithmetic and statistics and concepts of English grammar, we recommend your GMAT study plan involves completing an entire review of the GMAT official guide. Since you’re taking the exam within a short time, you need the best and most comprehensive GMAT material available and nothing comes close to the official guide.
Once you’ve completed practising from the official guide, you can then go on to take a GMAT mock test to see how you’ve scored and what are your strengths and weaknesses. Based on the analysis of your performance, you can then look for GMAT section-specific books or GMAT preparation books PDF that cover all types of questions and topics. So, whether you study for your GMAT exam in 6 months or in 1 month, the right resources and a proper plan is what will help you through. Not to mention, consistent practice through weeks you choose to prepare.
